do other countries have places where you can rent a storage place outside of your home foryour extra junk?
or is it only in america we have so much stuff we can't even fit it all in our houses?

for those of you who followed my cam and got to know my dog pooka, i just wanted to let you know that a few minutes ago , he died a peaceful death. he was 13 years old.
the fluff monster poofin hoover is an angel now.

i'm just sitting here in shock and feeling shaky.

elaine just told me. she has been his caretaker for the past 2 years.
he died in her arms.

i loved that little guy. what a tender heart.
a gentle being of light.

it keeps happening to me a lot these last few days. for example, this morning someone on my FL types the word "oasis" which reminds me i dreamed of a goddess named Oasis last night. so i decide to play the band Oasis this morning. as i tell my daughter to dry her tears, Noel (or is it liam?) of Oasis sings "wipe that tear away from your eye..." i then go on cnn.com and see that noel gallagher is leaving Oasis.

lili is trying out standing more and more.
she does it several times a day.
just pops up right in the middle of the floor :)

violet is 5 months old now
and lili will be 2 at the end of this month :)

lili on her bouncy horse at grandma's.
she has 8 teeth now and another on the way!
she is also getting close to standing on her own.

breastfeeding has been challenging, to say the least.
but here is a photo to prove to myself that sometimes, inexplicably, it will work.
i treasure these moments more than i could ever say because i never know what moment will be the last one like this.
(don't mind me looking like a total wreck and violet's eczema)

parsnip sausage casserole

one of my goals this summer is to try one new vegetable a week.
and also, because i am reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle i am trying to be more of a locavore

the new veggie this week is napa cabbage.

what i did with it was make this recipe for a sort of casserole/stratta (i made this up, here is the recipe)

bottom layer of casserole dish:...
grated parsnips with nutmug (maybe about 6 little ones)
middle layer:
maple sausage (brown it first)
top layer: a savory bread pudding/stratta with the green onions and napa cabbage (3 or 4 cups crumbled bread, 2 cups whole milk, 1/2 cup butter, 4 eggs, salt, pepper, sauted onions and cabbage..add as much as you want)

bake for 1 hour at 350

it was seriously delicious! sweet and savory :)
and every single ingredient in it was local! (except the spices and flour to make the bread)
